Objectives of the EU project BEET-PULP

 

Use of beet-pulp (residue after the sugar extraction of sugar beet), after bleaching and micronisation as additive in papers and boards in order to make them:

more resistant : this cellulosic additive has more affinity to fibers than mineral fillers.

more economical, as this additive can replace part of the fibers.

more recyclable, as it will enable to use less mineral fillers during the production of papers and boards.

 

A collective research for SME’s and associations of SME’s

14 partners (sugar beet growers and beet-pulp dryers associations, paper maker, equipment suppliers and research organisations) :
- 6 SME’s
- 4 SME’s associations
- 4 research partners 2 universities, 1 R&D center, 1 expert

5 countries (Finland, France, Poland, Spain, Switzerland)
New valorisation products for sugar beet residue
Duration : 40 months : September 2006-December 2009 Total budget 1,5 M euros
